Barefoot Bandit Behind Bars

After seven weeks of robbing banks, Jennings Palmer is now behind bars. The alleged "Barefoot Bandit" was captured yesterday after seven robberies. He committed a crime a week. We do not have information as to his reasons for committing these crimes.

“He seemed nervous. I remember his hands were shaking when I gave him the money,” said Sandy McConnell, 32, a bank teller at Kerry Trust National Bank. It makes you wonder why he would rob if he was nervous about something.

Is it possible that he was robbing not for himself, but for someone else? Is there a possibility that he was forced into robbing the banks? It is a possible solution. Or he was just nervous to be caught.

The police did manage to get him. Though in a way that seems absurd. They got him Red-footed! Literally. They managed to get him by his footprints.

A detective, who had a background in forensics, discovered that they could use his footprints to find a match. Sure enough, it worked. They figured out that the person was Jennings Palmer. It was a good thing that the detective knew forensics otherwise they might be still chasing after the criminal.

When we asked if these type cases are unusual, we got an unexpected answer. Retired FBI Supervisory Fingerprint Specialist Peter J. Dodd said that cases like these are unusual but not unheard of. “We had a case where we matched a suspect’s forehead print that he left on the window of a jewelry store that he was casing. And there is a new biometric technology that matches vein patterns of hands.”
